aqua & waste International GmbH (coordinator)
aqua & waste International GmbH is an independent engineering company with a focus on the fields of water and wastewater treatment in an international context. It is based in Hanover, Germany. The owner and managing director, Prof. Dr.-Ing Peter Hartwig, has close ties to India. He was essential in the realization of the specially developed and patented H-Batch system for the treatment of municipal wastewater in Srinagar.
KUHN Technische Anlagen GmbH (project partner)
Founded in 1926 as the Franz Kuhn company, KUHN has been trading as KUHN GmbH Technische Anlagen since 1979 and is based in Hoepfingen, Baden-Württemberg. KUHN manufactures equipment and builds plants for drinking water supply and wastewater treatment. It exports wastewater treatment equipment worldwide. Dr. Michael Kuhn, the managing partner of the company, has several years of local experience and has been in partnership with a manufacturing company in Navi-Mumbai since 2010.
ENEXIO Water Technologies GmbH
For more than four decades ENEXIO Water Technologies has been working with biofilm processes in water treatment. ENEXIO has equipped hundreds of trickling filters with fills and has provided support in design and engineering, also for IFAS (Integrated Fixed Film for Activated Sludge). Municipal and industrial users rely on ENEXIO solutions, too, when solids need to be separated from liquids. ENEXIO supports with process technology calculations as well as with the planning and design of plants. Peter Althaus holds the position as managing director of the company, and also heads the regional section India for German Water Partnership. He has been actively participating in the Indian market since 1996 and has established a large network in the country.

German Water Partnership is a German network bringing together around 350 private and public companies from the water sector, as well as trade associations and institutions from business, science and research. The network improves the framework conditions for field business development abroad, drives innovations and contributes to solving water related problems worldwide with adapted, integrated and sustainable approaches. Since the establishment of the Regional Forum India in 2009, contacts with Indian partners have been established and intensified, experiences exchanged and many activities have been planned in India.
Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB
The Fraunhofer IGB develops and optimizes processes, plants, products and technologies in the business areas of health, chemistry and process industry as well as environment and energy. One of their main areas of research is water technology. The diverse project activities of the Fraunhofer IGB include the project “Smart Water Future India” in Coimbatore, funded by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and a feasibility study for Umwelttechnik BW GmbH on water supply and wastewater disposal in Solapur. The institute is also connected to Indian stakeholders like the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in Nagpur. Furthermore, they also have a local presence in Bengaluru.
